Sienna noticed nothing unusual when she drove into the automatic car wash.
She placed the SUV in neutral and allowed the conveyor to pull it forward. The entrance door closed behind her as water began striking the windshield.
Then she looked into the rearview mirror.
A man was rising from the back seat.
Before Sienna could turn, he pulled the rear seatbelt across her upper chest and dragged her against the headrest. She forced her forearm beneath the strap, found the buckle and released it seconds before losing consciousness.
The man reached for her again.
Sienna grabbed the emergency glass breaker from her console and struck the driver-side window. The first impact left only a mark. The second shattered the tempered glass.
She climbed through the opening and landed on the moving conveyor as water and foam poured around her.
The attacker followed.
They fought between rotating brushes and high-pressure water jets while the conveyor carried them deeper into the tunnel. A massive cloth brush struck the camera beside them, burying the lens beneath soap and water.
When the image cleared, the industrial dryer was directly ahead.
The attacker charged. Sienna stepped aside, controlled his arm and swept his legs from beneath him. She handcuffed his wrists, reached for the red emergency lever and pulled it down.
The conveyor stopped barely a few feet from the dryer.
But the man in her vehicle was only one part of the trap.
Inside the control room, Sienna found ten archived recordings. Each video showed a different car entering the same wash.
Inside every vehicle was a young Black woman with long dark hair, warm brown skin and a build similar to Sienna’s.
None of them were identical to her—but they had clearly been selected because of the resemblance.
Hidden cameras had recorded their faces from multiple angles. Other devices captured their height, posture, gait and voices. Printed photographs on the desk compared their features to Sienna’s.
The attacker finally revealed that he had been hired to “secure the original.”
He did not know who employed him. Instructions arrived through encrypted messages, and every payment came from a company called Vega Identity Solutions.
Vega had once developed facial-recognition software for government contractors. Its former director, Dr. Celeste Rowan, specialized in creating synthetic identities capable of defeating surveillance systems.
Sienna discovered the purpose of the recordings.
Rowan was not searching for an exact physical duplicate. She needed someone similar enough to fool distant cameras. Makeup, prosthetics, a cloned voice and digitally altered security footage would handle the rest.
The women had been approached through fake modeling jobs and security-research studies. Some were paid to provide facial scans. Others had been followed and recorded without their knowledge.
Sienna was the final reference.
Then the largest monitor turned on.
It showed Sienna standing inside the control room at that exact moment. The image came from across the parking lot, filmed through the exterior window by a powerful telephoto camera.
Someone outside was watching her live.
Sienna ran into the parking lot, but the surveillance vehicle was already gone. She found fresh tire tracks, a discarded transmitter and a connection log pointing to a mobile control station registered to Vega.
The final transmission had been sent by Rowan herself.
Before disappearing, Rowan uploaded one more recording to the control-room system. It showed a woman resembling Sienna entering a secured federal building only fourteen minutes earlier.
The woman wore Sienna’s hairstyle, carried a copy of her identification and passed the lobby’s voice-authentication system using a perfect imitation of her voice.
While the real Sienna was trapped inside the car wash, the replacement had entered her agency.
The final image showed the double walking toward a classified meeting room.
Beneath it was a single message:
“THE ORIGINAL IS CONTAINED. BEGIN PHASE TWO.”
The car-wash attack had never been designed simply to kill Sienna.
It was intended to keep the real Sienna away while someone else took her place.
