It looked like an ordinary afternoon beside the river.
Sienna was running along the crowded trail when she noticed a terrified woman backing away from a large bearded man. He blocked the path, grabbed the woman’s arm and refused to let her pass.
Sienna immediately stepped between them.
“Let her go.”
The woman escaped, but the man did not follow her. Instead, he turned toward Sienna and quietly said something that stopped her cold:
“I was hoping you’d interfere, Agent Williams.”
Before Sienna could question him, he attacked.
His first strike sent her crashing onto the gravel. He rushed forward, expecting her to stay down, but Sienna recovered and fought back. Within seconds, she swept his legs, forced him face-down and pinned him to the trail.
That was when she noticed something disturbing.
The man was not carrying identification, money or even a weapon. He had only a black phone hidden inside his vest—and it was broadcasting a live video of the fight.
Someone had been watching them from across the river.
On the screen was a file labeled:
“RESPONSE TEST 04 — SIENNA WILLIAMS.”
The recording had started fourteen minutes before the confrontation.
This had never been a random attack.
Sienna looked for the woman she had rescued, but she had vanished. Witnesses insisted they never saw her leave the trail. When Sienna checked her sleeve, she discovered a tiny tracking device sewn into the fabric—the woman must have planted it while running past her.
The attacker began laughing beneath her.
“She was never the victim,” he whispered. “She was the delivery system.”
Then a new message appeared on the phone:
“Her instincts remain unchanged. Begin Phase Two.”
A map opened beneath it. Two red dots were moving.
One belonged to Sienna.
The other was already heading toward her home.
Before she could trace the signal, the phone erased itself. Across the river, a dark figure lowered a camera and disappeared behind the trees.
Police later discovered that the attacker’s identity was false. His fingerprints belonged to a man officially declared dead six years earlier.
But the most terrifying discovery came from the tracker. It was transmitting through an encrypted federal channel connected to a classified operation that had supposedly been terminated before Sienna ever became an agent.
Someone inside the government had planned the encounter.
They knew where she would be. They knew she would protect the woman. And now they knew exactly how she fought.
The attack was not meant to kill Sienna.
It was meant to study her.
