The path beside the river was crowded, sunny and peaceful. Nothing about the young girl riding her bicycle suggested danger—until a stranger stepped directly into her path.
He grabbed the handlebars and refused to let her leave. The frightened girl tried to pull away, but the man tightened his grip. That was when Sienna noticed them.
She calmly ordered him to release the child. Instead, the stranger turned toward her with a disturbing smile—as if her arrival was exactly what he had been waiting for.
Without warning, he attacked.
The first blow knocked Sienna onto the grass, but she immediately rose and fought back. After a violent struggle near the riverbank, she brought the man down and positioned herself between him and the girl.
The danger appeared to be over. Then Sienna noticed something strange.
The attacker wasn’t looking at her. He kept staring toward a wooden trail marker displaying the number 2052.
When Sienna asked the girl where she had gotten the bicycle, her answer changed everything.
It wasn’t hers.
The bicycle had been left outside her home that morning with a helmet and a handwritten note telling her to ride to marker 2052. The message claimed her older brother would be waiting there.
Sienna examined the bicycle and discovered a hidden compartment beneath the seat. Inside was a miniature GPS transmitter and a camera that had been recording everything—from the moment the girl left her house to the moment Sienna intervened.
The attacker’s phone revealed an even darker truth.
It contained photographs of Sienna walking the same riverside path on three different days. Someone had studied her routine, learned how she reacted to a child in danger and designed the entire confrontation to draw her to that exact location.
The final message on the phone had been received seconds before the attack:
“She took the bait. Keep her facing the water.”
Sienna slowly looked across the river.
A lone rower who had been nearby throughout the entire confrontation was already moving toward the opposite shore. When Sienna enlarged the recording from the bicycle camera, she saw the rower holding a long-lens camera pointed directly at her.
Then the GPS device emitted another signal.
A map appeared on the attacker’s phone, showing nine additional markers across the city—each positioned near a school, playground or family park.
Before Sienna could open the files, every marker vanished. One final message replaced them:
“Test complete. She still protects the child first.”
The man on the ground began to laugh.
The girl had been saved—but Sienna suddenly understood that the confrontation had never been about stealing a bicycle or hurting a child.
Someone was testing her.
And whatever they had planned next would use the one weakness Sienna could never hide: she would always risk everything to protect an innocent person.
