Vojin Kusic, a 72-year-old self-taught inventor, embarked on an extraordinary journey to fulfill his wife’s desire for a home with ever-changing views. The result? A fully functional house that rotates 360 degrees, offering panoramic vistas at the turn of a dial.
The genesis of this rotating abode stems from Kusic’s determination to appease his wife, Ljubica, who longed for a diversified perspective from their home. Tired of her complaints about the static scenery, Kusic decided to take matters into his own hands. “I’ve got tired of her complaints and frequent refurbishing of our family house and I said: I’ll build you a rotating house so you can spin it as you wish,” he remarked.
Constructed entirely by Kusic without formal architectural training, the house is a testament to his resourcefulness and dedication. The structure is mounted on a 7-meter axis and utilizes electric motors coupled with wheels from an old military transport vehicle to facilitate rotation. This ingenious design allows the house to complete a full circle in 24 hours at its slowest speed, and astonishingly, in just 22 seconds at its fastest.
The journey to bring this rotating house to life was not without obstacles. The project spanned six years, during which Kusic faced health challenges, including a heart condition that required hospitalization. Despite these setbacks, his unwavering commitment to the project never faltered. “I asked doctors to try to prolong (my life) for at least a year because I have this project in my head, and… nobody will know how to complete it,” he shared.
