“What a joyful day! I sold my (gulp) Tesla! No longer do I have to drive a symbol of racism, greed and ignorance! Life is suddenly so much better!!” Midler posted on Instagram and Bluesky.
Midler’s decision is rooted in her disapproval of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s political affiliations and actions. Musk has been a prominent supporter of President Donald Trump, contributing nearly $3 billion to political campaigns aimed at re-electing Trump and supporting Republican candidates. Furthermore, Musk’s involvement in the Deconstruct Our Government Executive (DOGE) initiative, which has led to mass federal layoffs and efforts to reduce government spending, has drawn criticism from various quarters.

Notably, singer Sheryl Crow shared a video of her Tesla being towed away, stating she would donate the proceeds from its sale to National Public Radio (NPR).
