A shocking case out of Maryland has drawn widespread attention after Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old quadruple amputee known for his inspiring athletic story, was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting. Webber, who previously gained recognition for becoming the first quadruple amputee to compete in the American Cornhole League, is now facing first-degree and second-degree murder charges after police say he shot and killed a man while driving a car in Charles County. The disturbing allegations have stunned many who knew him only through his motivational public image.
What Police Say Happened
According to investigators, the incident happened on Sunday night when Webber was driving a vehicle with three other people inside. Police say the victim, 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, was sitting in the front passenger seat, while two other passengers were seated in the back. Authorities believe an argument broke out between Webber and Wells, and that the dispute escalated quickly. During that confrontation, Webber is accused of shooting Wells while the car was still in motion. A spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said investigators do not yet know exactly what triggered the argument, but they believe the dispute turned deadly in a matter of moments. The two passengers in the back seat reportedly witnessed the entire incident and later provided police with information that helped identify and track down the suspect.

Alleged Attempt to Move the Body
After the shooting, police say Webber pulled the car over and allegedly asked the two passengers to help him remove Wells’ body from the vehicle. Authorities say the passengers refused. At that point, the witnesses reportedly got out of the car, leaving Webber alone with the victim still inside. Investigators claim Webber then drove away with Wells’ body still in the vehicle. Just before 10:30 p.m., the two witnesses flagged down a passing police officer and explained what they had seen. Their account became a crucial part of the early investigation. Nearly two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall reported finding a body in their front yard. Police believe this was Wells, whose body had allegedly been left there after the shooting.
How Webber Was Located
Using details provided by the witnesses, investigators tracked Webber’s vehicle to Charlottesville, Virginia. He was later found at a nearby hospital, where he was reportedly being treated for a medical issue. Police arrested him there on Monday, March 23, and he is now awaiting extradition back to Charles County, Maryland, where he is expected to face the murder charges. The case has generated intense public curiosity because of Webber’s disability, with many asking how he could allegedly have fired a weapon without arms. Police addressed that question directly, pointing to Webber’s own online videos and public record of using objects with remarkable dexterity.

Why The Case Has Shocked So Many
Webber lost both his arms and legs as a baby after a severe bacterial infection, and he later became widely admired for overcoming extraordinary odds. His achievements in cornhole and other activities made him an inspirational figure to many. That is part of what has made this case so difficult for some people to process. Authorities emphasized that despite public assumptions, Webber has long demonstrated the ability to handle complex tasks, including using a firearm, something reportedly documented in videos online. As the case moves forward, investigators are still working to determine what caused the fatal argument and whether additional details will emerge. For now, the story remains one of the most startling and unsettling crime cases to make headlines this week.
