Model, entrepreneur, and mother Hailey Bieber, 29, recently shared a deeply personal revelation about her health journey that many people were not aware of before. In an emotional discussion on the SHE MD podcast, she spoke candidly about a medical condition she was diagnosed with before becoming pregnant one that carries a significantly elevated risk of miscarriage and other potential complications.
Although her pregnancy with her son Jack Blues, whom she shares with husband Justin Bieber, was ultimately healthy, her experience sheds light on a condition that affects a small percentage of women but can have serious implications.
A Surprising Diagnosis Before Pregnancy
Hailey described her pregnancy as a complete surprise. When she began discussing the possibility with her OB/GYN — who also co-hosted the podcast — she was told that she had a uterine septum, a congenital variation that occurs when a wall of tissue divides the uterus. Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, her doctor on the show, explained that this internal tissue wall can vary in size and severity. In Hailey’s case, the septum was considered moderate — meaning it was large enough to impact pregnancy outcomes but not so large that it would automatically require surgery.

“A uterine septum is something you’re born with,” the doctor said during the podcast, noting that it affects roughly 1 to 3 percent of women.
Risks Associated With a Uterine Septum
A uterine septum can increase the risks of certain challenges during pregnancy because it changes the shape of the uterine cavity. According to Hailey’s doctor:
- Women with a moderate septum can have a 25 to 40 percent chance of miscarriage before the pregnancy progresses.
- There is also an associated 10 to 20 percent risk of giving birth prematurely when a septum is involved.
- These risks can be alarming, and many doctors recommend monitoring the condition before attempting to conceive. Some individuals with severe septa may undergo surgery to reduce miscarriage risk, but in Hailey’s case, her doctor initially observed the condition without immediate intervention.
A Successful and Healthy Pregnancy
Despite the risks and initial anxiety surrounding her diagnosis, Hailey went on to become pregnant naturally and carried her child to term. She and Dr. Aliabadi agreed that her positive outlook likely played a role in her successful pregnancy. Throughout the pregnancy, the septum expanded and adjusted as her body responded to changes, and ultimately everything progressed well. Her son Jack Blues was born healthy, bringing immense joy to the couple and relief to Hailey, who had been cautiously optimistic throughout the process.

Why Hailey Is Sharing Her Story
By discussing her experience publicly, Hailey hopes to raise awareness for a condition that many women may never know they have until they face difficulties conceiving or carrying a pregnancy. While a uterine septum is not always problematic, it can meaningfully affect outcomes and may require attentive medical care. In candidly sharing her journey, Hailey has connected with others who may have faced similar struggles, offering validation and a message of hope: that even when medical conditions seem frightening, positive outcomes are possible with attentive care and a supportive mindset.
